I think is a beautiful gift and eventhough I do not use as often as before it is always there whenever call upon.
My experience is that it gives me a direct line with our Lord, I truly feel that the Holy Spirit is letting me say exactly what my soul wants to say and asks exactly for what I need.
Just like Phil says is a pathway to comtemplative prayer, for me it makes it easier to concentrate in our Lord.
Whenever I pray in tongues I really feel that I am letting go and tune in myself with God.
